Canary in the Mine gets Murdered

This shocking and close to home for me. I can certainly imagine a set-up, being railroaded and then killed in jail, as it is claimed happened to Mr. Manton in the "Sunshine State". There is no shortage of goons who would do anything for a few dollars.

Is America becoming more like China where surfacing controversial or dissident opinions may be rewarded by prison, and even death?

Gulf human rights hero Thomas B. Manton falsely imprisoned, murdered

Comments:
Like most other pilots, I look at the Manton case for lessons.

First of all, if you are going to claim that the sky is falling, you had better be right. Manton forecast ruination of Florida recreation which the media played to great effect. Tourism revenues tanked.

It is no surprise that Manton's death would then be ignored by the media. They are hardly paragons of virtue or humble self-examination. It is far easier to sound a warning over and over than to seek out thoughtful scientists and spend, say, 10-20 minutes running an educational pieces about each of Gulf currents and eddies, the volatility of oil components, the effect of temperature, measuring flow rates at the broken well head, and risks to drilling a second bore to close the well permanently. Not to mention what is in Corexit, the dispersant used to drive much of the oil into the water column and to the sea bed, how that could get into fish, and the health effects on that to humans - of course, never mind the rest of life in the marine environment. We don't care about that, do we?

Overall, it is a sorry state of affairs. I don't know anything about sexual abuse of children or Manton's role in that. It does seem likely that he was targeted and maybe even framed. There were a lot of people angry with him in Florida for driving tourists away from beaches that, as it turned out, were unaffected. Sexuality in America is another whole topic and I am no expert. I have no practical experience. I was never abused.
