The Shadowy Infrastructure of American Leadership

  • You, James Wm Clement and 4 others like this.
    • Bruce A. McHenry Left out of this little ditty is the story of David M. Abshire who was recalled as Ambassador to NATO to help the Reagan Administration deal with Iran Contra. He held meetings at the White House and greatly mitigated the damage to the administration by getting Reagan to say, in effect, "the buck stops here so I am responsible and it was a mistake." Subsequently, the press and public lost interest and the affair blew over.

Like an oil company getting a $10 million fine for a practice that has generated $10 billion in profits, the neo-cons were buoyed by this. After the Gulf War, the neo-con big thinkers decided that removing Saddam Hussein would solve most all of the problems in the Gulf. The only problem was that the George Jr needed an attack. Much to Saddam Hussein's surprise, that problem was solved by a group of Saudi princes working with Al Quaeda and probably the likes of our professional diplomats like Kissinger, and false flag specialists. After 9/11, war fever kicked in and provided the mandate to neutralize Iraq.

    • Bruce A. McHenry Disclaimer: I personally despise David M. Abshire despite his genteel good manners. He is the kind of old West Point trained patrician southerner who still privately makes statements like, "I regret the Vietnam war because we could have won it". He took over the Lounsbery foundation and in throwing me out, discarded ideas I was developing to run competitions for transformational technologies such as could help to reduce dependence on oil imports. In place of seeding innovative engineering, most grants are given to friends of the directors, or people whom Abshire wishes to befriend. There is negligible to negative ROI like the many grants to global warming deniers. That's on top of administrative expenses that run 1/3 of total outlays in a foundation that raises no money and does not nurture any kind of program expertise.
